Magaly González Sierra, una niña con progeria, celebró este fin de semana en zona rural del municipio de Candelaria, oeste de Colombia, sus 15 años, aunque su cuerpo refleje 90. Toda una hazaña: quienes padecen la rara enfermedad suelen morir en la adolescencia.

«Me veo hermosa», dijo a la AFP esta pequeña, que, al no tener cabello, se preparó con una larga peluca y una corona plateada para la conmemoración, que tuvo lugar en el sitio denominado El Cabuyal, del municipio de Candelaria, departamento del Valle del Cauca.

Su sueño de toda la vida, ser «una princesa», según su madre Nedy Sierra, se le cumplió la noche del sábado, en su fiesta de 15 años. Una fecha que en Colombia se conmemora con trajes de gala, para festejar la transición de las niñas hacia la madurez.

Con un cuidado excesivo para no hacerle daño, sus padres la prepararon para la celebración, lo que incluyó todo un ritual previo de maquillaje y escogencia de vestuario, lo que despertó en la niña una sonrisa que le duró dos días.

«La enfermedad de ‘Maggie» empezó a los 10 meses. La piel se le fue endureciendo, se le puso acartonada, se le cayeron las pestañas, las cejas, el cabello», contó su madre, 35 años, ama de casa.

Sus padres no sabían qué le ocurría a Magaly, hasta que a los dos años los médicos le diagnosticaron el síndrome de Hutchinson-Gilford o progeria, que hace que los niños envejezcan prematuramente y de manera acelerada.

«Magaly tiene 15 años y los huesos tienen por ahí 90», dijo su madre adolorida.

La pequeña ya sufrió el año pasado un infarto, aunque sus padres esperan que pueda seguir viviendo y convertirse en enfermera, «como ella quiere».
